You should definitely collect vinyl, which is also the plural of the exact same word. No need for the S, friend. Collecting CDs is definitely a much cheaper hobby though. Not even close. Follow your heart, and your wallet.

I'm strictly vinyl but obviously there is a downside, you need a good turntable, stylus and vinyl requires a bit of care and more physical space. however vinyl is a much better sensory/physical medium you can connect to the music you love.

Both are rising in price daily but you will find a bigger selection of CDs at good prices in charity shops etc. Most now have their vinyl priced by so called experts that don’t appear to have a bloody clue.
