I first came across them when developing a client for the Philips Hue lightbulb ecosystem — the Hue Bridge uses them whenever an action (such as someone interacting with a dimmer) occurs. It was fairly easy to integrate with them and I ended up writing a library for Go so that I could use them in other projects.
