not @landontalks but as a baker and culinary student…: store bought is getting a cake from the bakery and serving it home made can be a box cake (partially prepared product that requires further ingredients to be served to people) or a cake from scratch but a cake from scratch cannot come out of a box so to your example your pie is home made, but not from scratch

I am a scratch cook and baker 90% of the time, but on occasion, I will resort to premade components or a boxed cake mix, especially if I’m making cupcakes for children who will just lick the icing off and go on their merry way. If someone were to question the veracity of calling those cupcakes store bought, they might find themselves escorted out with a cupcake in the face. If someone is going to the trouble of preparing food, rather than buying something premade, show a little gratitude.

I make pie crust from scratch. I like doing it. My grandfather was a pastry chef and used premade pie crust. He was producing hundreds of pies. I agree with the person who said homemade - you made/baked it~ from scratch is you made all the components
