There’s a popular trend to bash California, particularly San Francisco. Then there’s a popular countertrend to show gorgeous shots of SF with cheeky taglines like “yup, it’s a hell scape.” As a life long SF Bay Area woman, I will tell you it is both. It is and, not or. Last night my husband and I had dinner in PAC Heights, perfect, picturesque, uber upscale stores. Then we drove South of Market, searching for the parking lot where we had purchased a pass. It was the worst I have ever seen. 1/2

No one bothered us at all but I was terrified walking down those streets, just trying to get to the theatre where we had a play to see. So yes, I get what people are saying. There is a sense of what the hell happened to our city? There has always been homelessness in SF, but not the level of crazy I witnessed last night. Policies have clearly not been working. This was not a functional place. San Francisco

I live here (LA, not SF), and it's true that we have unmatched beauty, and a lot of problems that need to be solved. But I spend zero energy posting - or thinking - about other states. I don't get why people from other places think and post about us at all. It's bizarre.

I live in SF and I’m originally from CO. The intolerance is found in Denver too unfortunately
