Buuut, could we also agree that conservatives are less likely to admit to symptoms of mental illness, less likely to recognize mental illness symptoms within themselves, and less like to seek help? Because CLEARLY there is a mental health crisis within the Republican Party. Any thought? MentalHealthThreads

As I started reading this I was already thinking the numbers would be skewed because conservative republicans are WAY LESS likely to seek help when they don't even recognize the problem. They are supremely oblivious.💯

No way those middle aged to young white mean had mental issues they just couldn’t find the gun range after their brain swelled up from all the bs toxic masculinity they were taught their whole lives

I mean, the saying “ignorance is bliss” comes to mind. Also, having empathy can be exhausting and soul sucking. Getting a little help so we can refill our cups is necessary. I’ll take awareness with a side of therapy over denial any day.

Literally my first thought. We’re talking about the “f your feelings” crowd, after all.

This was my thought too. Many of them either don't believe mental illnesses are real or they believe you can just think your way out of them. I also think they are more likely to project their shit onto others which reinforces the lack of awareness. I'd be curious to see things like how big the disparity is, how it varies by illness, and how often they seek treatment and what type.

There’s also a higher occurrence of mental illness (especially depression) amongst highly intelligent people and people with more education. It’s almost like having a better understanding of the world, what’s going on, having empathy, and being fought against tooth and nail when you try to improve anything is incredibly taxing on mental health. 😂

Also less likely to go to therapy to be diagnosed in the first place

100% agree. Because despite studies saying they’re happier and less depressed, they seem so angry and hateful.

Is it not also true that the more intelligent you are, the more likely you are to develop mental illness and also the more educated and therefore supposedly intelligent you are, the more likely you are not to be right wing? University professional tend to be more liberal and to the left. But also tend to at least admit of mental health struggles...
