Great thread! Also here in Wisco and an avid hiker (usually on non-huntable public). Never occurred to me to wear blaze. Thank you for the PSA! Also, as someone who was raised by a MAGAesc family, that toxic implosion is equally devastating and beautiful. Like the death of a star, a spectacular reset. Unfortunately, a ‘worse before better’ scenario is en route. 😔

This is so regrettable. Their hate is unleashed on one another, too. I’m a Wisconsin girl who read your thread just shaking my head.

Yes, one should wear blaze orange even if you aren’t hunting, but people being shot yearly while hiking is not true. I don’t recall ever hearing of a hiker being shot in Wisconsin. Shooting victims are almost always due to accidentally shooting oneself because of unsafe gun handling, not checking what’s beyond the target, or not making sure of their target. And some are self inflicted.

Here in Iowa they put out signs on trails that are hunted to wear orange, or close them during certain times. But, it still boggles my mind that ANYONE would shoot at something without identifying it first.

And put blaze on your dog, as well! Mine wears an orange reflective collar all the time, and a blaze harness and light for hiking - even when it's not hunting season.

I avoid hiking near hunting areas, of course. But both I and my dog both wear blaze orange just in case.
