I booked the last upgrade seat on a short flight cuz reasons, but it was a middle seat. Friends asked if I was nuts, paying for the upgrade, only to get the middle seat. When the couple who had the aisle and window seats arrived at my row, I said "it looks like you are together. I wouldn't mind switching seats with one of you if you would like to sit together." The husband gratefully accepted my kind offer and I spent the flight on the aisle. Winners win. 😉
