Deeply surprised to find myself weeping with relief that the Assisted Dying Bill has passed its first vote. I watched my parents die within a couple of weeks of each other late last year, and I’d have done anything to alleviate what they went through in their last days. This bill wouldn’t have helped them, but this seems like a progressive step. I know most people won’t agree with me, but there’s something about a deathbed vigil that makes you feel differently about the UK way of death.
