I was curious so I calculated the CO2 difference for: If you have a 10 year old ICE car, you stop driving that. Then you buy a completely brand new EV and only drive that. Things I considered: CO2 to manufacture medium body sedan Tire production and shipping those tires to the west coast from TN (considered for both styles later, frequency for EV is higher) CO2 to produce a 80kWH battery and shipping from China to West Coast Charging EV batteries every other day using hydro electric power

I also put on the same graph, the cumulative CO2 of “if I only drove that new EV car” to see when the CO2 emissions would start to out pace each other. Here are my results! It takes about 14 years for your brand new EV to start saving CO2 compared to driving your old car till it dies. Both were calculated with an average of 11K km driving/year.
3 小時內	Marijn Van Troost marijn.vantroost	The only thing you're for getting is not everyone drives it till it's eol. Nor buy brandnew. So that 10y old well maintained car will get a second life. So when buying that EV, it will replace a 20y old scrapper. That and loads of people change cars every 3-5 years (lease?). So setting an EV, or clean ICE car will clean up that chain of cars. So it's good you're saying Reduce, Reuse, recycle, Repair. But try it in your calculation.
8 小時內	Robbie Corrigan desmodronic	What is the cost of disposing the ÉV battery? Personally I see myself getting another ICE, skipping ÉV and going straight to Hydrogen fuel cell. ÉVs are too heavy. We need to go back to the Chapman / Giacosa / Piech school of design where lightness is king. Smaller and lighter = less CO2
