I live in Massachusetts and I just can’t believe that the restaurant industry here got its way and can continue to underpay front of house staff. I thought my neighbors understood the value of living wages.

? You’d rather make minimum wage which is not enough to live on in MA and split all of your tips with your colleagues, than just do your job well to earn larger tips that you can keep for yourself? The latter option seems like it would provide more income. Not to mention you aren’t making minimum wage until 2029, but you’ll still be splitting tips in the mean time.

The front staff overwhelmimgly didn't want this because it would substantially lower their pay. And under the current system they're still guaranteed to make at least minimum wage because if they don't make enough in tips to offset the difference, the restaurant has to make up the difference.

I have friends who are servers and they didn’t want more hourly pay bc then they would get less tips 🤦🏼♂️ smh

What do folks think of the situation in California? It’s been working out just fine there, FOH workers are earning more. Just curious if anyone is aware of the reality on the ground there.

I know several service workers. On a busy night , with hard work, they can make $30-$40 per hour. Those days would’ve gone away. They all told me to vote no.

As a bartender, every single BARTENDER AND WAITER/WAITRESS GOT OUR WAY! This is overwhelmingly what we wanted.

Question 5 passing would have lead to servers making less money because they make way more in tips
