Instead of rebuilding the progressive base that was fractured in 2016, Dems focused on swaying non-existent "undecided" Republican voters. Progressives could have granted the support needed to win, but instead, Democrats tried to appeal to values that aligned more with their opponent's—and that backfired. It was simpler to stand for something genuinely positive, but they scoffed at us. In the end, they failed the party and most importantly all Americans, while the billionaires benefit either way
