You might….have an allergy

It has no taste. All I get is water and strings that get stuck between my teeth.

So, we cut a stalk into 3 pieces. My husband and daughter ate it with me. They said it tasted like nothing. I said it was pretty spicy. It even made the food I ate after taste spicy. I was incredulous. “If it tastes like nothing, why is everyone so against eating celery all the time? This spicy taste is kind of gross, but it’s grown on me now, so I can understand why people don’t like it.” Well, anyway. Apparently I am allergic to celery.

I always thought it tasted… peppery? I love pepper, celery not so much.

Celery leaves are a mildly spicy, like black pepper. Maybe you can taste that even in the celery stalk.

Am I the only one who thinks celery has an actual taste? It’s not watery. It’s not spicy or bitter. But it has a real taste that I HATE. My family has never understood my hatred of it and love it in soup and stuff “because it doesn’t really have a taste” to them. I guess it’s kind of onion-y or lettuce-y but I don’t know how to describe it.
