I did what I always do when someone seems unsure. I asked, "Can I help you find something?" or something like that. One of the women turned and snapped at me, "Can't we even just look?" I was appalled! They thought *I* was profiling them! ME! A "good" white lady! I said, "Of course!" but quick comebacks are not my thing, and I spent the rest of the shift ruminating on what I should've said to make them feel bad for their assumption. They hurt my feelings and I wanted to hurt theirs back. 2/11
