My dad, a staunch republican, lives 50 miles from me. I visit every Sunday for lunch. I declined lunch today and told him I wasn't coming for Thanksgiving b/c I can't be in a room with that many republicans (most of my siblings). His response: "He'll only be in for four years. And the market went up 1500 points. It's just politics." I replied, "No. It's a matter of morality and ethics. He's a walking litany of the 7 deadly sins." My dad laughed. I'm done with family.

Mentally healthy adults are able to set political differences aside. Your childish plan to punish your family by lack of your presence will backfire.
