While both NPR and PBS do receive a portion of their budgets from the federal government, I don’t think they get enough to eliminate them altogether. In total, I think they get something like ~15% of their budget from the Federal government. Just be prepared for a lot more fundraising, unless our own billionaires step up and fill the gap. Welcome to Oligarchy.

Don’t obey in advance

No one is talking about the licensing. It’s not just the funding. They are taking away their license.

This is unhelpful fearmongering. They’ll focus their efforts on Trump’s favorite enemies (which will still be bad, don’t get me wrong), I doubt Trump has even thought about PBS or C-Span.

C-SPAN is not run by the federal government. It’s an independent non-profit established by the cable industry & funded through private company donations/support. Trump thankfully can’t touch it

Take away NPR, PBS, C-SPAN or any other news outlet like them, they aren’t true Americans. They can call themselves that’s, but freedom of speech goes both ways. Take those away and, just as they preach day in and day out, there will be consequences.

Good riddance to all three

PBS needs to go back to showing kids shows until 5 pm instead of cutting them off at 12. And not showing them at all on the weekends. It’s sad because the shows used to be really good!

This is a bit of a doomsday prediction. NPR and PBS can survive without federal funding. Regardless I think the nasty shit happens to funded sectors of the government which aren’t as big of a part of anyone’s daily routine - think of NOAA, Forest Service, portions of the Dept. of Interior…the list goes on. Stuff you don’t notice until you notice.
