"Women aren’t any man’s property." Totally agree. So why do we go from our dad’s last name to our husband’s? Are we ready to have that talk yet?

Lol you have a choice to not take his last name. If you want your mothers last name. That’s possible too.

Honestly my boyfriend and I talked that if we ever potentially married that we would make some cool combination of our last names so that it would be for both of us.

My cousin's baby was given her mother's surname. As a (married) couple they decided the mother's surname was cooler and flowed better with the chosen given name. I never changed my name either.

lol I didn’t force my wife to do that she’s made her career with her name so she can have her brand and I have mine. Together we are our own brand sorta like Harley-Davidson lol

Speak for yourself. I’d never change my name. And any women who gives her kids their dads last name is a bloody fool.

Frankly, my husband just had a cool ass last name. And my son had his name too, so I wanted us all to have the same name. It was about being a family unit. It wasn’t about anybody being anyone’s property.

It’s a matter of social convention. No one is making you change your name. I’ve helped women with the name change process and it’s an absolute pain in the ass. Especially if you’re older and more established.

This has been talked about for years. Many women my age kept their birth name when we married, but my daughter’s generation has regressed.
