One of my daughter’s BFFs has been in a coma for over a week after a horrific accident. She called me to please come and fetch her from school as she couldn’t concentrate or stop crying. The school (UK) said I could take her but it would go down as unauthorised absence. Like they had no choice, like compassion isn’t in their power for a 16yo child. FemaleRage

My youngest has had terrible anxiety in the past so occasionally I kept her home for her mental health (maybe once a term). Also when her older sister was rushed to hospital I let her have the day with her grandparents. I told the school that I cared not one jot for attendance figures for the odd day, she missed MONTHS for covid closures, & is exactly where she should be with her school work. Sod them. As parents we know best.x
