I’ve wasted most of my evening defending myself on here because I said a lot of women in perimenopause struggle with weight gain. Why is it so hard to understand that it’s more nuanced than “move more and eat less”? I can’t believe how un-compassionate some people are, or maybe I’m just too passionate. I got asked “where did you learn this coaching style?” and told I was “off base” Delete and block from now on. I can’t be missing Married at First Sight for this again! 😆

I’m glad someone is saying it’s not that simple because… it really isn’t. After three f**king years my doctor’s like “wow we’ve really tried everything, you’re excruciating regularly, eating less and yet you’re still gaining weight” and I’m like “I tried telling ya…”

I’m 48 years old and this past year has been hell due to physical and mental issues. I am trying very hard to stay active and eat right, and while I know I could eat better, I’m not doing horrible. I feel like overnight my waistline doubled and it’s not going anywhere. My joints hurt and I have significant arthritis in my cervical spine. I can’t get anyone in the medical field to talk about how hormones may be making things worse.

Losing weight during perimenopause is ungodly hard. I can move all day and eat air and not lose

100% of those people saying that are male and/or are women who have not yet had the joy of menopause. Eating less, move more is an antiquated approach. There are doctors out there who understand this and you can find one (I hope).

Things can be "simple" and "really hard" at the same time. The math to weight loss is simple: a sustained calorie deficit will lead to weight loss. But for sure, sustaining a prolonged deficit is very difficult, and hormones can make that much more challenging!

When I was in my Kaiser-mandated weight loss class before they’d give me Ozempic one of the women in class asked the triple-board-certified instructor about this and he couldn’t put a coherent response together with two hands and a flashlight - finally landing on “there hasn’t been a lot of research there”. I’m sorry the medical community is letting you down.

They treat menopause weight gain like it's a goddammit moral failure.
