My 17 year old told me he wants a tattoo for Christmas. And was shocked when I said no. I’m not anti-tattoo. I have one. On my forearm so everyone sees it. But I told him that’s something he commits to after he’s an adult. I won’t be approving that while he’s still a minor. It took me years to figure out what I wanted permanently on my body. I also think he’ll decide no - this is a boy who stopped freaking out about needles THIS YEAR! Would you get your 17 yr old a tattoo?

2 小時內	Genevieve Mazzeo genamazzeo	My rule for anyone who asks me about a tattoo: pick a design (can be rough, but the general concept) and the location, then put it away for six months. Stick it in a drawer and try not to think about it. If you come back to it in six months and still want it (or something close to it), then hell yeah. Avoids the impulse tattoo and tends to be something you can live with for the rest of your life.

However when I was 17 I thought my first tattoo would be of a macaroni noodle on my ass cheek. Instead it was a matching tattoo of a flower on my ankle. My mom is heavily tattooed. If he wants that tattoo now, make him wait a few months to get it. Its a permanent decision.
