If it stinks you are using too much detergent. Also clean the rubber rim with vinegar. You have to gently pull it apart to get it all clean. There is also a drain that usually needs to be emptied and the filter cleaned.

Since I started using organic inviromentally safer products my machine in much better.

My mothers top Loader puts small black gunk spots on the washing. Hides in the drum. So they aren’t better.

Most front load doors are designed to be left slightly ajar. And you can run the tub clean (or the shortest cycle) with tub cleaner once a month. This should help. Ours doesn’t stink at all. Also clean out the filter occasionally.

You need to leave the door open between uses. This stops nasty smells and sludge.

Take out the soap/conditioner drawer after each wash and let it drain. Run hot water through it as the conditioner makes it slimey

I always leave the front door open and have never had any smell, three different machines over the years and never had an issue
