When English speaking people want a private conversation, they either wait till they are alone, or go somewhere else private. When people whose second language is English want a private conversation, they seem to think its OK to speak in their own language, loudly in front of people who can't understand what they are saying. It's rude! I feel like I have to leave the room because of this. I feel uncomfortable, like I'm not welcome in the room.

If it's a private conversation, then it's one of your damn' business what they're talking about.

Why do you feel the need to be included in other people’s private conversation ? If you really want to be included in a PRIVATE conversation , why don’t you learn new languages?

It's not rude. They're just using their first language. If you moved to a foreign speaking country you'd learn the language to get by but if you met someone from your own country you'd automatically begin speaking your first language together.

You're right!! It's rude to switch to a language that's not a common language if there's mixed company. At least if one apologizes to others before switching, i can give them a pass that they at least acknowledged that it may make others feel awkward but absent that it's a rude behavior. Wish everyone felt that way! Clearly many think it's perfectly ok to shun out people mid conversation

maybe they just have normal conversations and they don’t intend to be rude or anything:) Or they don’t speak English at all, so they are just using their own language:) Nobody is talking about you when they speak a different language in front of you;)

No one asks you to feel uneasy. No one asks you to presume the worse. You're in no place to judge what home language people are using. You are, you don't have to admit it, a frigging paranoid who assumes people are bad mouthing you in a private conversation to your face in a language ither than English. Master one more language, appreciate another culture, open your eyes, get a life.
