Since my post is still blowing up, I just want to share my exvangelical experience that made me the empathetic badass I am today. I was raised Church of Christ by a father who “found god” at church camp and was baptized in a muddy creek in the backwoods of Tennessee. I LOVED the church growing up. My dad was truly the most Christ-like person I’ve ever know. It is his example I continue to follow and his love for all mankind that beats in my chest. 1/🧵

I too lost my full ride to LCU because had a child. I tried to go to church in college but was shunned, frequently asked “where my husband was.” At the time we divorced my father still believed I was committing a sin because he “hadn’t cheated on me.” Despite the fact he became a drug addict. My son is 24 now and pretty much the best.
