I immediately cut off my large family after the ‘church lady’ of the group handed my transgender teenager their 16th birthday card, hugged them and said ‘you will always be *deadname* to me’ and finished with ‘one day, when god gets around to it, he will fix you’. The rest of the family then accused me and my teen of lying about what was said. Of course I was told ‘she’s a woman of god, she would never say that’ and that my child needs to grow thicker skin.
