Perhaps to teach her that she can survive. I am a (retired grom training but still have skills) martial artist and also thought he could've stopped it sooner. But I've had broken toes, broken ribs and was kicked in the face once (colleague was alcoholic and misjudged that one). No malevolence just mistakes. I carried on training.
