I mean it’s true that you should put them in the case, but I also agree with your original statement that it makes no sense. Most high quality headphones will disconnect and shut off if nothing is playing long enough. They could so easily program something like that.

Case in point (pun intended). I was literally listening to music on the closed AirPods Max because they did not disconnect while in the Smart Case. Now imagine them connecting to one my home devices during the day on their own and me simply not noticing it for hours.
