This is why I try to be THE first appointment of the day…. Everything feels like I’m playing the lottery with the rest of my day! Lol

Because they are alotted an unrealistic amount of time for each person. So if 1 person is late or requires more than 15 minutes, it derails the entire schedule. They are in a lose- lose situation

About 30 years ago, I had a Dr appt. I waited for 1 1/2 hrs then got up and told them when they’re ready, call me at home (no cells then) stormed out. They called promptly as I returned home. Next day I didn’t even sit down to wait to see the Dr. I was proud of myself.

I’m in healthcare and it usually depends on how the day got started. Like did the attending doctor come in on time and start seeing patients on time. Also you also have to factor in talking time ie like questions the patients may have before leaving out of the room. Then some doctors love to run their mouths which makes the visit longer. Then you have the ones who just procrastinate for no reason.

Unless the doctor had an emergency to care for then sounds like they just simply overbook which isn’t fair. When it’s like this I just find someone else…especially when you wait all that time and they go in for 5 mins to see you.

PA-C here. We’re only given 20 mins of time to see a patient, we’re expected to see 18-22 patients a day. 20 mins w/ 1 patient isn’t bad for a quick mediation refill, but most of our patients have chronic conditions (DM, HTN, CAD, CKD etc) plus they are likely having an acute issue too, like new back pain or worsening depresison. They’ve waited months to see a doc, and now they have 20 mins to tell us everything. Insurance comp are who force us into this schedule. See more people, get more $$

Usually, you can place the blame on the other patient's before you. I know, weird concept, but 9.9 times out of 10, it is NOT the providers fault 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I’ve had to sit in an OBGYNs office for over an hour. I later found out that lady had gone into labor early and there was some kind of emergency with her and the baby.

This used to bother me a lot in the past, but since I see so many specialist now I don’t mind it only because I know it means the doctor is giving their patients attention. So when they see me next I know they aren’t going to blow through my visit, which to me is worse than the wait. I’m not paying a co-pay for a doctor to just see me for five minutes and not hear me out. 

I’m a nurse at a clinic. Overbooking is pretty common to account for no shows and the absolute terrible reimbursements by insurance providers. Butttt we also have a provider who typically runs about two hours late no matter what. It frustrates staff to no end. Some providers are very thorough and also have complicated patients that need more than a 20 min slot.
