I hate the immigration debate. We are proudly a nation of immigrants. Rather than deport, why not facilitate to assimilate and legalize? They already pay taxes. Why not give them the papers to be proud of doing so? Maybe if “paying taxes” was looked at universally as “doing one’s civic duty” it would be better understood among the elite as well as the masses as being part of who we are.
