4th grade math is crazy!😩 This can’t be how I learned in the 80s. Because what is distributive property? Enrolling in tutoring for both us.

Um, distributive property has been around forever. It sounds like you were never good at math?

Grade 3 homework question on day 1 of perimeter: Mohammed goes to the store and buys 10 m of border. He has enough for 1 bedroom but not the second. What are the sizes of the bedrooms?

3(a+b) = 3a + 3b. I learned that in the 80s.

I am sorry to say (but I am going to say it) that it was the Distributive Property when I learned it in the 1970s. I had a teacher who made us say "The Distributive Property of Multiplication with Respect to Addition" (or "...with Respect to Subtraction") in order to emphasize that there's multiplication outside the grouping, and addition/subtraction on the inside. 1/2

Before, they often taught math as “just do this”. Now, they try to explain *why* you do it. Seems confusing and unnecessary sometimes though.

Check out khan academy. It is free, has videos and practice problems for all grade levels.

If you can’t grasp the distributive property, or the communitive property, you have seriously deficient thinking skills!

I mean this with absolute respect - Google is free! (Some people say it to be rude… I mean compared to tutoring…) I teach math 7/8 and have a ‘hub’ of YouTube videos kids can reference for reteaching, studying, help at home etc. ‘Math with Mr J’ and Khan Academy are 👌🏻

Well distributive property isn’t a new concept. I’m not sure how they’re teaching it now but how I was taught was like 4(12+6) = (4*12)+(4*6) = 72
