Some people think that the only way to be "dark and gritty" is to do what Man of Steel did and make the CHARACTERS darker and grittier. Those people are wrong. Superman especially works better in a dark and gritty cinematic universe, because as the shining beacon of hope, he stands out more. He seems more "superman-y" in a world in need of a hero than in a shining world full of them. Superman in a Marvel-esque world is just another cape. So agreed; make The Batman-iverse the default canon.
