People kept asking me what I was and everytime I said Black they would say “you mean African American” and I kept saying I am not American I can’t be African American. Then they would say so what are you and I would say Black and they would love to mixed with what? And then I’d say Indian and white and they would say. You can’t say Indian. And after a few rounds they would let us know when you find out what you are. It was exhausting. Why can’t I just be Black?
