I lost my dad this week. It took my SIL *6 hours* and 5 different representatives at Telus to cancel his phone & internet. They kept passing her around and suggesting someone else take over his contract. Then they refused to allow her to get out of paying the $200 fee to cancel the contract. Someone finally did in the end, but COME ON. Is it too much to show a little compassion and humanity?

It took me 2 1/2 months to cancel my parents Roger’s/Shaw account after they went into long term care. I finally resorted to closing the account their payments went through. Hours of telephone/online gaslighting.

I had the same type of experience after my father's death and I tried to cancel his Mastercard. The CSR kept insisting that I couldn't cancel the card unless I provided them with a death certificate. I said I wasn't doing that. Either they cancelled it or they dealt with potential fraud on the card because it was still open. I was doing them the favour as I wasn't going to pay for any charges that were added after his death.

I remember when my Nanny passed I missed school for her burial. We got a call that afternoon because, "did you know that chickiebuffer wasn't in school today?", as my mom obviously forgot to call to say I'd be out. My mom snapped back, check the obituaries as to why she's not there 😅 Honestly funny now just because I'm from such a small, nosey area that it's plausible that they'd already have seen it.

Not related to 🪦 but similar struggle. Worked at small company that had a cellphone plan w/ Freedom. Comp. got sold & I had to transfer account to new mgmt. They were less than helpful even though I had ALL information needed to do an ownership change “because I was not an authorized person”. Now imagine you lost a relative who were also your boss at work and you tried changing ownership of the account so you could keep running your relatives’ business??!??!? Like such a hard time for no reason!
