I always say that my (now 78 year old) mama stopped maturing at around 12 years old. It is the strangest and most difficult thing trying to engage with a 78 year old 12 year old.

This can happen no matter the race, it’s just a little more evidence in how classism and systemic racism brings people down. Brain development can be stunted or altered because of trauma and trauma can be caused by racism and classism. I think this has less to say about black women/people and more about what we’re doing as a society to cause this.

As an Afro American woman, I have to disagree. I had to.

She may have said this because a lot of black women have been abused, molested or raped by the time they are 14 which can cause their mental development to pause until they reach the point of healing.
