Technically starwars is classified more as a fantasy space western, it's never really classified as sci-fi. Therefore is take some a more retro space look

More technology advanced does not automatically mean more modern looking. It makes sense in the fact that some cultures see the value more in the function and not on the flairs and colors you will see to perform said function. Also, some sci-fi movies make "modernity" too obnoxious, it feels nice to appreciate the less flashy elements and ambience.
