Maryland is a solidly blue state but it is not immune to attempts to restrict our freedoms. In Jan. 2024, the Board of Education in Carroll County (a red county) voted unanimously in favor of a book ban. Among the 59 BannedBooks are significant literary works such as “The Bluest Eye” - Toni Morrison, “Slaughterhouse 5” - Kurt Vonnegut, and “The Handmaid’s Tale” - Margaret Atwood.
