I would highly NOT waiting. Consider the impact of the recurrent infections on their hearing/language development, repeated antibiotic exposure, and on their personality/feeling of security being left in pain repeatedly. Our son had 10 ear infections in one year, from 12-24 months. He got tubes... he was suddenly cuddly, relaxed and so much happier.
