I see a lot of people bash home ownership and praise renting apartments but I don’t think they look at the long term affect when people become 50-60 years old still renting heading into retirement still renting vs having a paid off home with hundreds of thousands in equity built that you only pay property tax on that you can leave as an asset to your children or grandchildren when you pass away, for the average American I think home ownership is underrated

Homeownership is affordable you may not live where you want too and I think that’s why people don’t buy they want the more expensive home and live in a certain area. I see both sides.
20 小時內	ethnicchick8	I’ve seen quite the opposite. A majority of folks renting homes bashing apartment dwellers. By the way, you are not a home owner until you pay every last dime owed on that home . As we have already seen, the banks have noooo problem yanking that home/condo right out from under you, even for abysmal amounts. At the end of the day, be grateful to have a roof over your head. Also, be humble because a lot of this verbiage reeks of pride.
21 小時內	LJ ljourneying	I think an under appreciated aspect of this is what is the risk someone is willing to take? By that I mean - as I own my home, I can get people out as soon as I want to fix something when it’s broken. I know people who have had to wait the max time for repairs to get done (like in August in TX, 10 days for HVAC repair). There are a lot of crummy landlords out there who want to do the bare minimum.
