I deeply love craft fairs, handmade goods, and local small biz vendors, but we have to rethink the business model of $6 bars of soap and $20 soy candles.

I hope the intention of this post was to learn why artisans and makers charge what they do. Many makers undercharge and don’t pay themselves. Stop expecting them to compete with big stores. You might not the their target market.

what you listed is less expensive than what corporate conglomorates currently charge. you cannot expect the quality of a handmade item for less than crappy corporate prices via unethical and exploitative business practices. when you buy handmade, you’re getting quality and you’re actually paying what the labor truly costs instead of what a company exploits labor overseas.
