I think what was forgotten here is the Herodians, liberal equivalent to the Pharisees who sided with the Roman government. These two groups joined hands to crucify Jesus. Both conservatives and liberals in this instance condemned the Messiah equally. We would not receive the helper, Holy Spirit, was only given to those saved by grace alone because Christ was crucified. We must stop relating our time to how it was meant to be read.
