We went through the McDonald drive-through, and I gave the cashier a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her 25 cents. She said, “You gave me too much money.” I replied, “Yes, I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar back.” She sighed and went to get the manager, who asked me to repeat my request. After I explained, he handed me back the 25 cents and said, “We’re sorry, but we don’t do that kind of thing.” The cashier then gave me back 75 cents in change.

I used to carry quarters in my glove compartment but now you pay parking meters with your phone app. Public transportation, at least an NYC, is now paid by using your phone or watch at the turnstile to the subway or bus. What’s a phone booth? A typewriter? A toddler was swiping a magazine at the doctor’s office, oblivious to anything that was not a screen. You can’t fight progress, if that’s what it really is.

If the worker had already pressed the 5€ option, then if they were to give you a dollar rather than 3 coins, then the tills 'wouldn't add up' and that's a write up. Now I know the total is correct but the bills and change are sometimes seen as 2 seperate entities and very anal companies care about that. It's ridiculous and I hate it.
