one of wifey's richest uncles (she has a few of them) asked me if I could fabricate a replacement part for his boat hoist at his lake house. Yes, really. The company that made the original part is long dead. He didn't like the $1200 bill.
My material cost was $12, but the original was cast instead of fabricated and yeah that's important. Cast parts will usually be stronger. The original casting had a huge void. It was defective from the factory. I've been the guy to fix cavities in castings.
