Anne meets a young woman named Leslie (who is caretaker to a formerly abusive abusive, now mentally incapacitated, husband) & tries to befriend her. Sometimes Leslie seems interested in a friendship with Anne and other times she is cold and distant. As a reader sympathetic to Anne (after all, Anne had been my literary "friend" for four books), Leslie's actions bothered me. It seemed like she was being mean & unfair to Anne, a person who was going out of their way to nurture a friendship. 🧵/2
