My mother used to say that to me constantly. I promised myself I would never say something that cruel to my own children & I never did. When my oldest dtr was hospitalized for depression I broke down sobbing after leaving her in a lock-down facility. On the drive home my cell phone rang - it was my mom. I said, "You always said you hoped my dtr would make me suffer like I made you suffer. Well, you finally got yourwish, Mom." Mom quietly replied, "I am so sorry I ever said that."

My mother’s response to the announcement that I was pregnant with my first child was similar…and he is so much like me that it hurts. But I am striving to be the mom he needs me to be, and the mom I deserved at 14/15. It’s so difficult and frustrating to be on this side of MH stuff. Like. Why couldn’t she just get me the help I begged her for? I have been working so hard to get my kids the support they need. & I don’t tell them to “get over it”😠
