As a Malay who learned Mandarin in Chinese school long ago, I’ve found that over time, I’ve forgotten how to read and write the language. Now, I can only speak Mandarin fluently, and if I need to read or write, it takes me a bit of time to refresh my memory. I wonder if it’s normal to forget the reading and writing part, but I’m still grateful that I can converse in Mandarin effortlessly. It’s a skill I’m glad I’ve held onto.
