So, here’s the thing…I agree with 95% of what you said. As a teacher, I have come across parents in my career who really should not be parents. In an ideal world, all parents would make good choices that aid in the positive development of their child. The reality is, many still won’t. I don’t believe in banning TikTok, but I do believe in restricting children from having smart phones and/or specific apps. We can state our opinions about poor parenting all we want…but they won’t change.

Took my 12 year old. Knew it would have some more adult vibes. Also knew her music does too. Talked to my daughter beforehand about all of it. +1 on paying attention, but also talk to your dang kids. If you aren’t, I guarantee their peers are. My generation survived Darling Nikki and Sugar Walls, they’ll survive this.

I'd add that while social media sites can be very sneaky (regarding what the algorithm pushes versus what the sites claim to do to protect kids), there is nothing sneaky about Sabrina's lyrics. They are overt, and to not realize that you must be actively ignoring - like, putting in headphones to block it out or leaving the room. No way someone is present while that album is on and doesn't pick up on at least one line.

Parents do not monitor what their kids are watching on TikTok. (Which is crazy to me because as a Millennial we were part of the guinea pig generation for the internet.... We ALL got exposed to things we shouldn't have seen at way too young and I'll be damned if I'm letting my kids go through that!)

I remember Eminem talking about how parents got mad at him because their kids listened to his music and the things he said in his lyrics and he was just like, try being a parent and taking a little responsibility for what your kids are up to? He was correct then as you are now.

It’s a tale old as time. It used to be rock music’s fault. It was the video games, Marilyn Manson, Dee Snider, The Beatles, etc... It the same old pearl clutching that always ends up on the wrong side of history.
