I thought raising kids was tough, I was totally unprepared for how hard it is to deal with aging parents. Serious denial about health concerns, falling for scams, not wanting to admit they shouldn't be driving, borderline hoarding tendencies. Knowing how hard to push them while allowing them to maintain their dignity is a fine line that isn't easy to walk. agingparents

However my husband and I have a pact not to buy any more stuff and we are slowly getting rid of things that no longer serve us and we have no emotional attachment to. I also hope that when the time comes we will be amenable to outside help. I don't want my son to go through what we've been through with our families.

We have to remember that they’ve lived longer lives than us, and when we as children take the lead, it can truly offend them without them saying it out loud. My elderly father lived his last years in a mess, but had we interfered we’d have had no lasting memories of our good times together. It’s a fine line to walk, and there is no rule book. Our parents need to be respected while being kept safe.
