Today 61 years ago, I was in my senior year of high school in a very conservative county in Southern California. As we came to our Social Studies class we discovered our young teacher in tears and he told us the President had been shot. There were many tears that day and I learned that many teachers were not conservative racist Republicans and felt confirmed in my belief that neither was I. Thank you to those four mentors who comforted us on the saddest day in history we had known so far.
