I believe it's a dilemma that people have in this city. Somehow they're quite defensive and skeptical when some stranger wants to know them more.

I've been in Meetup groups, been an organizer (cuz I like to plan shit), and all I gotta say is... People tend to carry their trauma and past hurt as their reasoning that it becomes a sense of "I'll get hurt because of this and that", but don't give a chance for themself to thrive. It's easy to meet people, but it takes 2 to tango. I make and build connections by just smiling, be bubbly, & chatting. I can only talk and plan outings for so long that I need others to take initiative.

I just did not choose Vancouver by accident, but in another province I feel that this post is also valid with "Canada" instead of Vancouver. This country is less populous than south Korea but I still managed to make quite few friends over several years. Unless (many possible outcomes), this issue alone could eventually lead me to think it's not worth staying here/not worth reaching out outside my community. People already said multiculturalism failed in 2000s and it did.
