My hot take is there is no real "villain" as all characters have their own backgrounds and motives as to why they are the way they are. Elphaba is the unfortunate scapegoat for each of these characters flawed ways of behaving and thinking. Her story should remind us that we're always the "villain" in someone's story, but that doesn't mean we're born wicked, for we most certainly have wickedness thrust upon us.
