It’s funny how core childhood memories change with the perspective of adulthood.
I remember walking with my Nana through the alley behind her house to a nearby ice cream shop when I was maybe 2-3. Along the way, I’d pick up coins that I found on the ground.
Years ago, I mentioned to my mom how strange it was that there was so much loose change in that alley.
She revealed the truth: “PopPop would go ahead of you and drop the exact change you needed, so you could pay for your own ice cream.”
