It's happened to me, they follow you first and then they unfollow you shortly after you followed back, I think they do that so they can increase their followers without maxing out the people they follow I see it happening a lot when participating in the "teamwork" or "grow" type post on IG. They'll have hundreds/thousands of followers but barely follow other people. Every few months I'll go through my list and clean house.
